From the latest Uniqlo and Jil Sander collab to a virtual coat drive organized by Nobis, here’s what made headlines this week.

Uniqlo announced its latest collection with Jil Sander

Designer Jil Sander’s +J collection returns to Uniqlo stores after almost a decade since her last collaboration with the brand. The collection of elevated essentials includes coats, blouses and cashmere that embody the minimal, modern, and architectural style known to the designer. “I set out to define the global modern uniform with this in mind: Clothes should be long- lasting and enduring. They should serve the wearer and give her or him the energy and self- assurance which is so much needed in our global reality,” says Sander. Fans of the designer can get a taste of her aesthetic without the hefty price tag, with Uniqlo’s collection ranging from $29.90 to $329.90. +J is available online and in Uniqlo stores starting November 12th.

Hugo Boss released its latest responsible sailing capsule

On November 8, Alex Thomson will take part in the Vendée Globe, a non-stop yacht race around the world. Thomson will race the Hugo Boss yacht, a custom designed vessel that took a team of over 100 people 30 months to build. The Hugo Boss branded black and pink boat – the aesthetic components of which were designed by Canadian Karim Rashid – compliments the brand’s responsible sailing capsule collection. The eight-piece capsule is inspired by Thomson’s commitment to sustainability in his sport and is made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. As the second sailing collection from the brand, this assortment was designed to directly link to the Hugo Boss yacht and similarly strives to use reduced resources. With performance elements like a water-resistant rain jacket and breathable cotton T-shirts, both fashion and function take centre stage in this capsule.

A Net-A-Porter island is coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Indulge in a little fashion-focused escapism with the launch of a new Net-A-Porter locale in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Come November 2, you’ll find a rendering of the e-comm giant’s London headquarters, complete with photography studio and editorial room plus a space for sports and meditation, and a spot to snap a NookPhone selfie. Done in collaboration with artist Kara Chung and creative agency WeSuperseed, the swish virtual space also boasts an opportunity for visitors to purchase pieces from an exclusive Fall 2020 capsule collection by Isabel Marant.

Nobis launched a virtual coat drive

Canadian outerwear brand Nobis has launched their No Cold Shoulder campaign aiming to keep more than 15,000 people warm this winter. Nobis is making donating gently used coats as easy as possible by offering biodegradable mailer bags and prepaid shipping labels for customers to ship donations with. Labels are available at Nobis stores and can be shipped to customers with online purchases.  The campaign will donate the collected coats to local charities. In addition to the coat drive, the brand will donate $50 from each Nobis coat purchased in November to GLOW (Gently Loved Outfits to Wear) and 100% of proceeds from sales of its beanies will be donated to New Circles Community Services.

ela teamed up with Sasha Exeter on a vegan handbag (that sold out not long after launch)

This week, Toronto-based accessories brand ela launched its new collaboration with Sasha Exeter. Together with designer Ela Aldorsson, Exeter co-designed a chic, limited-edition version of the brand’s belt bag in a vegan black croc leather. Speaking of the design – which included a 100 per cent recycled lining made from eight plastic water bottles – Exeter wrote on Instagram, “Aligned with a vision to create a bag that would be seasonless, sophisticated, and functional for all women (with belt sizes in S/M and L/XL), Ela and I landed on this timeless design made to be worn as a crossbody or around the waist.” The bag launched on Monday and sold out shortly after. There’s no word yet on whether there will be another run of the bags but we suggest keeping your eyes peeled on social to pounce if there is.
